Review:
Szechuan food is Chinese famous cuisine for it’s unbelievably hot and spicy. The reason Szechuan people feed themselves with this special cuisine, is that the temperature is wet and moist. To balance the human body and the moist air, the chilipepper and local peppercorn in food play important role.
Grand View is where you want to taste the original Szchuan food if you are looking for this sort of restaurant somewhere around Vancouver.
Pity is you still can’t order take-out on their website, But it’s worth the try calling them thru phone line. If you really like hot food, then I think you will always be back.

NEW RESTAURANT OPENED IN VANCOUVER DOWNTOWN - COAST

Posted on August 6th, 2009 in Vancouver Restaurants Reviews | No Comments »

The Vancouver seafood scene needs new life. The time has come for something more. Something different. Something better.

We deserve a Vancouver seafood restaurant that truly celebrates our breathtaking coastal life. And with the all-new Coast, the tide, finally, is turning. This city will never be the same.

In its new, much larger downtown Vancouver location, Coast will revitalize the Vancouver restaurant scene. The new Coast strives to deliver Vancouver’s freshest and best seafood: Oysters with the life of the ocean still within them. The rarest, most perfectly prepared fish, shellfish, and all the bounty of the sea. Beautiful seafood platters, piled high with the most succulent, crab, shrimp, lobster… In short, all the food that makes coastal living great – all prepared to absolute perfection.

Coast is alive with a bustling energy, an atmosphere that’s warm and welcoming for everyone you’d like to bring. The restaurant’s design is brimming with beautiful details, with a nod to the classic West Coast seafood restaurant – but reinvented for a Vancouver aesthetic. The result is a soaring, beautiful space – the largest in the GLOWBAL COLLECTION – that is sure to become a landmark among downtown Vancouver restaurants.

And O-Lounge, a stunning new L.A.-style cocktail lounge right next door, will offer a sultry place to unwind with a cocktail – a stylish, elegant, sexy space for those of us who enjoy a little more electricity in our evenings.

Brought to you by the minds behind the celebrated GLOWBAL COLLECTION of Restaurants, Coast aims to be, quite simply, the best seafood restaurant in Vancouver, B.C.

We need a place like this.

Vancouver deserves a place like this.

Kitsilano Sushi

Address:
3105 Broadway W
Vancouver, BC V6K 2H2
Ph: (604) 737-0181

Review:
The sushi at Kitsilano is varied and traditional. Whether you want your sushi raw or vegetarian, it is fresh and filling. For those wary of seafood, the menu contains the usual pan-Asian fare. The seaweed salad was especially fresh, with a surprisingly light and crunchy consistency. At about $3, it’s worth a try.

The easily-navigated menu includes appetizers, soups, salads, Japanese entrees, sushi appetizers, and sushi maki and special rolls.

The staff at Kitsilano Sushi is very friendly and attentive but not overbearing. They keep the atmosphere relaxed by serving the food in separate courses so that you can adequately enjoy each part of the meal.

Outstanding Japanese Gourmet-Hapa Izakaya

Posted on June 23rd, 2009 in Vancouver Restaurants Reviews | 2 Comments »

The Hapa Izakaya is located in 1479 Robson St, Vancouver.

Telephone: 604-689-4272

Insider review:

dishes ranging from marinade sashimi to grilled kobo beef to mushroom rice served in a piping hot stone bowl, and although they have one or two ‘plain’ sashimi selections, their marinade or ’sauced’ versions are highly recommended.

Cold sake is served in a very cool bamboo container. Food is served quite quickly, so you don’t have to sit there waiting for too long. Seating is more of table settings with one side on a bench, and there is a row of ‘bar’ seats ideal for couples.

Feature:

King Salmon Sashimi, Mackerel and rice.

Tips: definition of Izakaya ?

Izakaya: a type of Japanese drinking establishment which also serves food to accompany the drinks. The food is usually more substantial than that offered in other types of drinking establishments in Japan such as bars or `snack bars`. They are popular, casual and relatively cheap places for after-work drinking.

Overall ratings: great Izakaya food but VERY busy!

Insider View:
The golden interior of the sushi haven is somewhat lackluster, but the tearoom, complete with the lowered table and floor cushions for that “authentic experience”, more than makes up for the décor. An assortment of maki is on the menu and sashimi for the adventurous salmon lover. Business lunches are a success here as service is speedy yet polite and the presentation of your meal is an enjoyable adventure into the realm of Japanese cuisine.
